Creation of the Cambridge University
The history of creation of the University of Cambridge is not a very pleasant one, it is a tragically one, if to be particular. As it was mentioned by Roger of Wendover, Cambridge University was originated on the crime committed in 1209. The story is as follows: two people were blamed in the murder of the woman and were hanged by the authorities of the town. In order to protest this hanging, University of Oxford went into the suspension of the voluntarism that is why several scholars migrated to the territory of the School of Cambridge and since that time, the school started to be called sometimes as a university and received a popularity and the recognition by the citizens and some of the local authorities.
In 1233, the decree from Pope Gregory IX was established, which awarded to the university some legal protection. In 1328, many foreign scholars paid visits to the University of Cambridge and started to lecture there. Since that time, the status of university was consolidated. Originally, all the students of the university were of the male sex, and only in 1947, the women succeeded to be enrolled into the University of Cambridge. Such women discrimination one can watch within the walls of the University of Cambridge.
