Legend of Cambridge University
Cambridge University is very popular among the students, so there are many interesting stories and legends, connected with it. Because of it there are always many tourists in the campus of Cambridge University. Some legends are true, others are invented, but all of them are exciting and fascinating. They attract people.
One of the most interesting legends is a legend about Mathematical Bridge. This narrative is widespread among the students. According to the story, the bridge was built by Sir Isaac Newton and it was constructed without screws and bolts. Many years later several students decided to deconstruct the bridge to understand how it was built. But in fact they were not able to build the bridge without fastening. According to the legend the bridge was reconstructed 22 years after death of Newton with the help of many screws and pins.
The second famous legend refers to the Clare College Bridge. It is a narrative about a bridge in the Clare College, which was constructed in the years 1639-1640 with the help of special stone ornaments. The bridge is famous because of quarter sphere wedge which was removed from the back, and tours on the bridge. There are three different explaining of the bridge`s popularity:
- According to the first tale the constructor of the bridge did not get enough money for his work and he decided to take revenge and to make small act of vandalism.
- According to the second story there was a bet between two students concerning the amount of spheres on the bridge. One student removed the quarter-sphere and won a bet.
- According to the third story the Clare University did not have enough money to pay the bridge tax and they decided to leave the bridge incomplete, because they did not have to pay a tax for unfinished bridge.
